Political Economy in the Institute of Economics of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences: Respecting Traditions and Facing New Challenges

Abstract:

The paper briefly reviews the publications of academic staff of the Institute of Economics of the Ural branch of RAS on various issues of political economy between 2000 and 2010. It highlights that this direction of research is not a core one in the Institute, yet the analysis of the publications indicates that the initiative work on a variety of problems of political and economic nature generated certain results. In particular, genealogy of the term “political economy” was updated, conceptual differences between traditional political economy and modern economics were revealed, and current development prospects of this direction of economic science were outlined. At present, the political economy of reform is selected a prospective scientific topic. As a result, the conceptual framework in this field has been refined, reform has been structured as a special political and economic phenomenon, and an approximate list of thorny issues has been compiled to continue research on this topic.
