The European Natural Gas Market and Russia’s Prospects

Abstract:

Depletion of oil and natural gas deposits tightens the competition between leading countries of the world for resources and alters their economic and energy policies. European countries raise ecology standards, for this reason, part of nuclear power plants is closed. As a result, the demand for natural gas is growing. The article describes the models of “energy doctrine”, namely the domination of large state monopolies, the competitive energy doctrine and the forming “The new global energy doctrine” connected with increasing state regulation. The exacerbation of the situation in natural gas market marks the new stage in the formation of mixed economy. The authors formulate recommendations for Russian government bodies and national business that will help to retain Russia’s economic and political positions in European and global natural gas market.
