Author: Svetlana V. Orekhova and Fyodor Ya. Legotin

Abstract

The paper is devoted to the issues of designing company’s strategy in the context of modern resource– based view. Detailed analysis of resources and their properties, which maintain sustainable competitive advantage, forms the basis of the resource strategy formulation. The authors specify the parameters of uniqueness of a firm’s resources; propose a list of parameters to assess resources (their properties) necessary for maintenance of a long-term competitiveness of a business; identify main directions for analysis of a resource portfolio. Allowing for the specified properties, terminology and structure of resource portfolio the authors worked out an algorithm of choosing a resource strategy by a firm. The algorithm comprises two stages: forecasting results planned to be obtained using the resources, and devising the resource strategy taking into account the data of RVB–analysis in such directions as assessing the relevance and complementarity of resources, determining their sufficiency for implementation of the selected strategy and creation of quasi-rent, GAP–analysis. Based on the results of the analysis of the resource portfolio the authors list major types of resource strategies of a firm.
