Abstract:

In the second half of the 20th century, the foreign economic activities of the Soviet Union were highly dynamic. Along with the socialist countries, its principal partners included the Arabian states. The article investigates a diversity of the economic relations between the USSR and Arabian countries in the 1950s–1980s and demonstrates that the states of the region occupied an important place in the structure of the Soviet export, whereas Soviet specialists contributed significantly into creation of industrial and military bases in a number of Arabian countries. The authors examine the economic relations of the Arabian states with the enterprises of Sverdlovsk oblast and list the major spheres of interaction. They conclude that today the experience of cooperation can be used productively to restore and develop the economic relations with the Arab world.

Keywords: economic cooperation; Sverdlovsk oblast; the Arab world; the USSR.
