Abstract: Summary. The paper compares and contrasts foreign and Russian experience of infill development of the cities: in Russia this means infill construction which is seen definitely negatively whereas abroad it is an integral part of the so called “smart growth”. The article formulates basic propositions on changing infill development systematization in the Russian Federation.
