Emergence and Development of Interbank Business in Russia

Abstract:

The article explores the issues of emergence and development of interbank business in Russia. It shows the main stages of this process as well as the interrelation between Russian and world financial cri‑ ses and transitions from one stage to another. For each stage, the interbank operations the most actively carried out by banks are identified. The major factors behind the development of the interbank relations between individual banks and within the interbank market generally are examined. Particularly, a pos‑ sibility of establishing limits on a partner bank, presence of a bank in Russian or international ratings, credit history of relationships between banks, etc. are considered. The author evaluates the influence of various actions of the Bank of Russia and other government bodies on interbank business as well as the effect of economic sanctions enforced against Russia. The findings of the research reveal the current state and prospects of interbank business in Russia
