Abstract:

The article deals with the results of a sociological survey of internal academic specialization and the‑ oretical and methodological principles used by the Russian economists. The main purpose of the paper is to examine a widespread notion about high heterogeneity of the Russian community of scholars in the field of economic sciences. The findings have shown that in theoretical and methodological aspects the majority of the Russian economists have more commonalities than differences. In particular, it was found out that most Russian economists do not consider themselves to be mainstream economic thought repre‑ sentatives, critically perceive the state of affairs in modern economics, frequently apply econometric tools in their studies, and have sympathy with institutionalism. The largest differences in the views of the Rus‑ sian economists are observed in their attitude to the necessity of creating the “national” economic theory.

Keywords: economic science; Russian community of economists; “national” economic theory; mainstream; schools of economic thought.
